CIRC 2016 Summary

Pilot VI Program Launched at Davis Park
This Pilot program for the Visually Impaired is a cooperative effort between the CIRC Adaptive Initiative and the Special Recreation department of CPD. Run out of Davis Park under the supervision of Christina Moy, this effort trains VI athletes on the erg with plans to incorporate rowing tank experience this spring at Clark Park and on-water experience at the Lincoln Park Boat Club this summer. The pilot’s objective is to develop and refine an instructional program that is relevant and expandable throughout the greater Chicagoland. Fundamental to this program is the mutual respect and training support between the visually impaired and the sighted seeking a common athletic goal.

Notable Athletes
John P. Miner Sr. and Vince Zamora are remarkable military veterans who persist against the odds. At CIRC2016 John competed in the 1000m Adaptive Event and then the Open Gut Buster. A right-shoulder injury did not impair his determination to compete nor his infectious spirit..
Vince recently suffered from a stroke that has impaired his movement and speech. His focused on a determined recovery and once again, as he has for the past four years, volunteered to help at the Lwt weigh-in station. Then he sat down to compete in the Adaptive 500.
We salute our veterans
